Turku Guide: How to Get to Turku

Turkuun saapuminen on helppoa! Kaupungin kansainvälinen lentokenttä on lähellä keskustaa sekä Helsingistä kulkevat suorat juna- ja bussiyhteydet.

Getting to Turku is easy! Turku has its own international airport close to the city centre, and there are several good traveling alternatives available from Helsinki and Helsinki Airport as well.

Jos matkustat Helsingin keskustasta, paras tapa saapua Turkuun on junalla. Voit ostaa liput netistä tai Helsingin päärautatieasemalta.

Jos saavut Helsinki-Vantaa lentokentältä, voit ostaa liput kaukojunaan joko netistä tai lippuautomaatista junalaiturilta. Muista asettaa lähtöpaikaksi Helsinki Lentoasema, jotta sinun ei tarvitse ostaa erillistä lippua paikallisjunaan. Vaihda juna Pasilassa.

Liput kannattaa ostaa hyvissä ajoin ennakkoon VR:n verkkokaupasta, koska alennukset ovat tuntuvat. Myös kaukojunassa voi ostaa junalipun, mutta vain korttimaksulla. 

Junamatka Helsingistä Turkuun kestää noin kaksi tuntia. Monet hotelleista on kävelymatkan päässä asemalta. Asemaa vastapäätä on myös taksitolppa.

If you set out from central Helsinki, the most comfortable way to reach Turku is by train. You can purchase tickets online or at Helsinki Central Railway Station.

If you arrive at Helsinki-Vantaa airport you can buy long distance tickets online or from the ticket machine on the train platform. Remember to set your starting point as Helsinki Airport so you don’t have to buy a separate ticket for the commuter train. Transfer at Pasila station.

Purchase your tickets in advance online if possible because early purchase discounts are sometimes quite big. You can also buy tickets without seat reservation on board the long distance train (payment by card only).

The train ride from Helsinki to Turku takes about two hours. You will arrive at the Turku Central Railway Station. Many hotels are within walking distance and there is a taxi stop right in front of the station.

Turkuun matkustaminen bussilla on edullinen vaihtoehto mistä tahansa isommasta kaupungista. Turun linja-autoasema on vajaan 10 minuutin kävelymatkan päässä keskustasta. Linja-autoaseman läheisyydessä on myös taksitolppa. 

Onnibussilla on edullista ja helppoa matkustaa Turkuun. Otathan huomioon, että hinnat kohoavat huomattavasti, mitä lähempänä matkustuspäivää ostat lipun. Lippu on mahdollista ostaa myös kuljettajalta, mutta vuorot ovat yleensä loppuunmyytyjä. 

Onnibussiin voi ottaa mukaan vain yhden ison matkalaukun (painoraja 20kg) ja yhden käsimatkatavaran per ostettu lippu. Lipun voi maksaa käteisellä tai kortilla. 

Matkahuolto tarjoaa myös edullisia pitkän matkan bussilippuja. Myös heillä liput ovat edullisia, kun ne ostetaan hyvissä ajoin ennakkoon. Matkahuollon vuorot ovat harvemmin loppuunmyytyjä, joten lippu on mahdollista ostaa myös vasta kuljettajalta. 

Jos matkustat useammalla kuin yhdellä matkalaukulla, tämä on paras vaihtoehto matkustaa. Lipun voi maksaa sekä käteisellä että kortilla.

Long distance buses are an affordable option when traveling to Turku from any of Finland’s major cities or airports. Turku Bus Station is located a mere 10 minute walk outside the city centre and there’s a taxi stop right next to the drop-off zone.

Onnibus drives with regular intervals to and from Turku with some of the most affordable prices on the market. However prices will go up the closer to your travel day you purchase. It’s possible to buy a ticket from the bus driver, but counting on this is risky since the bus is often sold out!

You can take only one large suitcase (max 20kg) and one hand luggage per ticket. Cash or card accepted.

Matkahuolto is the general ticket distributor for most long distance bus companies in the region. They have lowered rates for the early bird as well and prices go up the closer you get to your travel date. These buses are less likely to be sold out, and the rates are reasonable even if you purchase your ticket directly from the driver on the day of travel.

This is the best ground travel option between cities if you have more than one big piece of luggage. Cash or card accepted.

Osa lennoista lentävät myös suoraan Turkuun. Jos suoraa lentoyhteyttä Turkuun ei ole, seuraavaksi paras vaihtoehto on Helsinki-Vantaa-lentoasema. 

Turun lentokentältä on keskustaan bussikuljetus, joka kestää n. 30 minuuttia. Bussiliput voi ostaa kuljettajalta (3€/aikuinen, käteinen tai luottokortti) tai Föli-sovelluksesta.

Some flights fly non-stop to Turku Airport. If that is not available in your country, transfer at Helsinki Airport.

From Turku Airport, take bus 1 towards the harbour. The trip takes about 30 minutes. You can buy tickets from the bus driver (3€/adult, cash or card with contactless payment) or via Föli-app.

Jos tulet Ruotsista, Turkuun pääsee myös laivalla. Viking Line ja TallinkSilja tarjoavat mukavan tavan matkustaa Turkuun. Laivat saapuvat lähes Turun linnan viereen ja sataman terminaalin edessä ovat bussipysäkit ja taksitolppa.

If you are located in Sweden, you have the historically accurate option of traveling by ship! Viking Line and TallinkSilja both offer comfortable and convenient travel options for Turku. The ships land almost right next to the castle and there are both taxi and bus stops in front of the terminals.
