What is your mental image of the dark middle ages? Dirty people dying of the common flu because they don’t wash theit hands? Drab brown clothing and girls getting married at 13? Well, you’re wrong and I’ll tell you why. The lecture brings up common misconceptions about the Medieval world and tells you how things really were in the context of medieval Finland, Turku and Turku castle.

Matkalle kasvien maagiseen maailmaan kirjonnan merkeissä sinut johdattaa Purppuratuomi! Kansanperinteessä kasveilla ja sienillä on tiedetty olevan erilaisia taikavoimia ja vaikutuksia. Purppuratuomi värjää suomalaisia villalankoja erilaisilla voimallisilla kasveilla sekä sienillä, joista tässä pajassa kirjotaan oma talismaani. Talismaanien symbolit yhdistelevät suomalaista perinnetietoa  ja muinaisuskoa. Pajassa kirjot oman talismaanisi ja saat tietoa kasvien erilaisista voimista! Paja soveltuu kaikentasoisille kirjojille. Olet lämpimästi tervetullut!

Purppuratuomi introduces you to the magical world of plants with this embroidery workshop! In Finnish folk tradition plants and herbs have been used as medicine but also were known for their magical properties. Purppuratuomi dyes wool yarn with plants and mushrooms that possess different powerful properties. The yarns can be embroidered into talismans that are inspired by Finnish mythology. Now is your chance to create your very own talisman with Purppuratuomi! You do not need to have previous experience with embroidering. You are warmly welcomed!

Where we can still see some of the renaissance style? How did the court culture change in the 16th century? And what has this to do with forks?

Tule askartelemaan kanssamme kasvomaski! Tässä pajassa koristellaan maski ommellen ja liimaten kukkasilla, helmillä, pitsillä ja muilla somisteilla valmiisiin kangasmaskipohjiin. Paja soveltuu kaikentasoisille askartelijoille.

Come create a face mask with us! In this workshop we will decorate a readymade fabric mask using flowers, peads, lace, and bling. The workshop is suited for beginners as well as more experienced crafters.
